Does insurance cover telerehabilitation appointments?

Manitoba BlueCross, CanadaLife, WCB, MPI and almost all other insurance providers now cover telerehabilitation appointments, as per a usual in clinic appointment.  On the intake form you can provide your insurance details.

Is my internet connection going to be good enough?

The internet connection can prove to be a problem sometimes!  It is important to make sure you have adequate hardware, browser, and connection.  You want to be sure you have a network speed of at least 5 Mbps download and 1 Mbps upload. Most high speed networks will give this, but this is bare minimum. You can test speed at speedtest.net. When on the wifi, it is also important to be near your router to help with connection speeds.

Do you have a clinic that I can go to if I am in Winnipeg?

Yes!  We have a clinic at 5130 Henderson Highway, Narol (10mins north of the permieter) and another at Medinah Drive, La Salle.  Having your initial assessment or any of your follow-ups in clinic is ideal, but not essential.

What conditions can be treated using telerehabilitation?

  • Post-op rehab.
  • Pre-op rehab
  • Sports Injuries.
  •  Falls Prevention.
  • Back Pain
  • Neck Pain
  • Sprains/Strains

What do I wear?

If we are looking at a lower limb injury (hip, knee or ankle), shorts are best.  If it is a neck or upper limb injury (shoulder, elbow, wrist/hand) a t-shirt or tank top would be ideal.

What room should I have my appointment in?

Wherever you are comfortable.  If we are looking at the lower back, hip or knee it would be helpful for both of us if you can have the appointment in a room where you are able to lie down.

Should I have someone else with me for my appointment?

This is entirely up to you.  It can be helpful to have someone else present, especially if you think you might need help getting the laptop or tablet set up.

Do I need a referral?

No, you do not need a referral to see a physiotherapist in Manitoba.  Some insurance plans require this, please check with your provider.

What can I do if it has been determined that telerehabilitaion cannot be used to treat my condition?

We will help find your closest physiotherapy clinic, or if necessary, make contact with your family doctor.

Dose it have to be an iPad or iPhone

No!  You can use any laptop, tablet or smartphone.  It does not have to be Apple or Samsung for instance.
